There’s always one shirt. The one you reach for when the others are perfectly clean and somehow still not qualified for the job. It fits your mood, works with your jeans, and has survived enough coffee runs to deserve its own rewards account.
Then laundry day comes along, and you toss it into a load with towels, somebody’s zippered jacket, and a dryer setting called “Whatever Was Already Selected.”
Let’s give your favorite a slightly better plan.
Envy Stylz tees and sweatshirts feature DTF designs—short for direct-to-film transfers—applied with a heat press. A few thoughtful laundry habits can help care for both the garment and its graphic. Nothing elaborate. Your shirt does not need a spa membership.
The quick answer: how should you wash graphic tees?
For a gentle everyday routine:
- Turn the garment inside out.
- Wash in cold water on a gentle cycle with mild detergent.
- Skip bleach and fabric softener.
- Air-dry when practical, or tumble-dry low if the garment’s instructions allow it.
- Never iron directly over the design.
Always follow the care instructions supplied with the finished item. Different fabrics and transfers can have different requirements. If the garment label and decoration instructions differ, use the more protective compatible method—or ask us before washing.
Screenshot the list if you like. Unlike that screenshot of a casserole recipe from three years ago, this one might actually get used.
Start with the label, even if you’ve been doing laundry forever
We know. You have washed approximately eleven million loads. You have found receipts, rocks, and one deeply unfortunate lip balm. You understand the machine.
Still, a cotton tee, a blended sweatshirt, and a lightweight tank may need different treatment. The graphic adds another consideration.
Check both the garment label and any care information included with your purchase. A blank garment’s label describes the fabric; additional instructions may explain how to protect the decoration.
Think of them as two women giving directions to the same destination. Ideally, we listen to both before turning onto a gravel road.
Turn it inside out before it goes in
This small step helps reduce rubbing against the printed surface during washing.
Do it before loading the machine, rather than discovering afterward that you carefully protected every shirt except the one you actually cared about.
While you’re sorting, keep your graphic favorites away from particularly rough items and exposed hardware when practical. A printed tee does not need to spend its afternoon wrestling a zipper.

Choose cold water and a gentle wash
Cold water and mild detergent make a sensible, conservative starting point for DTF garment care. A gentle cycle keeps the routine less aggressive.
Use the detergent amount recommended for your load and machine. An extra enthusiastic pour is not a substitute for reading the bottle.
Skip bleach and fabric softener unless the finished garment’s specific instructions explicitly permit them. Don’t assume that a product labeled “color-safe” is automatically suitable for the printed design, either.
For spills or stubborn marks, check the care guidance before reaching for a stronger treatment. Avoid scrubbing the graphic or experimenting with cleaners directly on it.
The salsa incident is unfortunate. It does not require a chemistry experiment.
Can graphic tees and sweatshirts go in the dryer?
Air-drying is the gentler choice. For a sweatshirt, drying flat can also be practical when its care instructions call for it.
If machine drying is permitted, choose low heat. Follow the garment’s directions rather than treating every sweatshirt like the bath towels.
And yes, we understand the appeal of high heat when you need your shirt in twenty minutes. Unfortunately, “I forgot we were leaving” is not a care setting.
You don’t have to turn your laundry room into a boutique display. A suitable drying rack and a little planning will do.

What about wrinkles?
Keep a hot iron off the graphic.
If the garment permits ironing, work only on suitable unprinted areas at the label’s recommended setting, keeping the design clear of direct heat. Don’t assume that putting a cloth over the print makes every ironing method safe.
If you’re unsure, ask before trying it.
Also, resist the urge to repair a lifting edge with a household iron. Contact us with a photo and the item details so we can help assess the next step. Your favorite shirt deserves more than a late-night tutorial and blind optimism.
Does a freshly pressed shirt need time before washing?
It can. DTF manufacturers’ instructions vary: some specify at least 24 hours after pressing, while others recommend 24–48 hours.
That waiting period begins when the design is applied, not automatically when the package reaches your porch. Follow any first-wash instructions supplied with your order.
If you’ve collected a freshly made item locally and aren’t sure, ask us. That is considerably easier than trying to remember whether “freshly pressed” meant this morning or last Tuesday.
A little care, a lot more everyday wearing
The goal isn’t to make you nervous about wearing your clothes. These are the tees you take to lunch, the sweatshirts you keep in the passenger seat, and the favorites you want ready when the group chat finally settles on a plan.
Give them a gentler wash, go easy on drying heat, and follow the instructions for the actual item.
Then wear them. Clothes with personality deserve to leave the laundry basket occasionally.

A few questions from the laundry room
Can I wash a graphic sweatshirt with other clothes?
Usually, provided the care instructions, colors, and washing requirements are compatible. Turn it inside out and avoid a load of rough items that could rub against the design.
Does “heat-pressed” mean the graphic can handle a hot iron?
No. Applying a transfer under controlled production conditions is different from ironing a finished garment. Keep direct ironing heat off the design.
Will these steps guarantee the print never cracks or fades?
No. Materials, application, wear, and laundering all affect how a garment ages. These are care practices intended to reduce avoidable wear, not a lifetime guarantee.
